Case study: Manhattan West public realm, New York
Manhattan West is a mixed-use project in New York forming part of the Hudson Yards Redevelopment. Illuminated by acclaimed London-based lighting practice Speirs Major Light Architecture, the design for the central elevated 2.5-acre plaza supports easy permeable connection with transport hubs, a thriving retail environment, and opportunities for social interaction. The lobbies of buildings One and Two act as an extension of the public realm, with light that cleverly dissolves the glazed external envelopes, while celebrating the sculptural qualities of the architecture. BIO
Carrie has over 20 years’ experience in lighting design and architecture since graduating from The Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, Rhode Island, USA. Joining Speirs Major in 1998, Carrie expanded her enthusiasm for architectural design into the realm of lighting. Since then she has developed a keen interest in the field, approaching design and collaboration with an artistic aptitude, understanding of architectural intent and determination for integrated design. Carrie has applied this knowledge and skill set to a diverse range of over 250 architectural lighting design projects.
